Panama Becomes an Increasingly Attractive International Destination

Panama is strengthening its position on the international tourism market, supported by growing visitor numbers, strong air connectivity and an increasingly diverse travel offering. The country combines Panama City, tropical islands, Pacific and Caribbean coastlines, nature, culture and premium travel experiences, making it attractive to different types of international travelers.

According to preliminary figures from Panama’s Tourism Authority, the country received 1,755,998 international visitors during the first half of 2026, representing a 17.4% increase compared with the same period of 2025. Tourism revenue also continued to grow, reaching $3.79 billion for January–June 2026.

Growing Demand for Travel to Panama

The latest figures indicate that Panama is attracting not only more visitors, but also increasing interest from travelers looking for diverse and personalized experiences.

The country’s international connectivity remains one of its major advantages. Tocumen International Airport connects Panama with key destinations across Latin America, North America, Europe and the Caribbean, making Panama City a convenient starting point for exploring the country.

The growth is also reflected in hotel demand. During the first half of 2026, hotel occupancy reached 67.6%, according to figures presented by the Tourism Authority.

From Panama City to the Islands

Panama’s tourism appeal extends well beyond the capital.

Travelers can combine Panama City and the Panama Canal with private beach escapes, island trips, nature experiences and coastal destinations.

The San Blas Islands and Pearl Islands are particularly attractive for travelers looking for a more private experience, while the Pacific and Caribbean coasts offer different styles of beach and marine travel.

This diversity allows Panama to accommodate both short city breaks and longer tailor-made journeys.

Private & Premium Travel Experiences

The growth of international tourism is also creating greater demand for personalized travel services.

Instead of a standard package, international visitors can organize a private itinerary around their own interests — including premium hotels and villas, private yacht and catamaran charters, VIP cars with chauffeurs, helicopter transfers, private aviation, individual excursions and nature experiences.

For travelers who value flexibility, this approach makes it possible to combine several destinations and experiences within one journey while maintaining a consistent level of comfort and service.

Panama’s Tourism Outlook

The positive results of 2026 reinforce Panama’s growing role as an international travel destination. In addition to leisure tourism, the country is developing its position in business travel, international events, conferences and conventions.

During January–June 2026, Panama hosted 74 international events with more than 113,000 participants. For the full year, 110 international events were already confirmed, according to the Tourism Authority.

For international travelers, this combination of connectivity, natural diversity, infrastructure and increasingly personalized travel services makes Panama an increasingly interesting destination in the Americas.
